Jednotka (RTVS) is the first television channel of Radio and Television Slovakia. It was created in 1993 as a result of the transformation of the Czech-Slovak Television's first program, which began broadcasting from Bratislava in 1956. Unlike its later second program, Jednotka was conceived as a federal channel, with both Czech and Slovak content.Today, Jednotka is part of a public multiplex and can be watched live on TV stream or online through various streaming services. The channel broadcasts news programs such as "Udalosti" ("Events"), entertainment shows like "Vecer s Hudbou" ("Evening with Music") and sports events including football matches from the Slovak Super Liga. Additionally, Jednotka also airs documentaries about nature and culture, children's programs such as "Krtek", comedy series like "Panelák" and movies from all over Europe.
In addition to its regular programming schedule, Jednotka also provides coverage for important national holidays like Christmas or Easter Day Masses celebrated by Pope Francis at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome; special reports about current affairs; educational programming for schoolchildren; music concerts featuring popular artists from Slovakia; debates between political candidates during election campaigns; interviews with prominent personalities from politics or culture; talkshows hosted by famous presenters such as Pavol Habera or Adela Banasova; religious services held by different denominations throughout Slovakia etc.
All these features make Jednotka an essential part of life in Slovakia - providing viewers not only with entertaining content but also with information that helps them stay informed about what’s happening around them on a daily basis.
